Our walk
In a nutshell
The place we want to bring you to lies within the territory of Siena, halfway between Rome and Florence, in Tuscany. It is a place like no other, crossed by ancient paths that will take us through hills, medieval towns and woods in the gorgeous landscapes of Val d’Orcia.
The beauty of Val d’Orcia speaks for itself, it is a UNESCO world heritage site that has been celebrated by artists of all times, from painters to writers to film directors that decided to set in this area movies such as “The English Patient” and “The Gladiator”.
We will have our accommodation in the lovely hamlet of San Quirico d’Orcia and from there we will set out by feet every day to discover some of the most elusive and intimate corners of Italy, with the expert guidance of locals that will take us off the beaten path and into the core of beautiful Tuscany.
We will walk around villages and enchanting gardens, we will relax in roman thermal baths, we will visit vineyards and drink Brunello di Montalcino produced locally. We will taste traditional foods and learn some of the best local recipes, we will visit monasteries and churches and we will meet those who live this land and those whom have lived here before, uncovering the history and traditions of a quiet world that still refuses to give in to the rush of modern times.
What makes this tour special is our attention to details and our deep knowledge of the places we will show you, combined with decades of experience in the field and with the enthusiasm of wanting to show the beauties of our home to the world!
This is no land to thread in a hurry, and we shall take our time to savour it.
Practical
informations
Difficulty level
We will walk 15 km on average a day at a steady but chilled pace and the paths are not particularly hard, making this trip suitable for whomever enjoys walking. We will always get back to the starting point at our hotel, so you just need to bring a small backpack with what is necessary for the day.
Accomodation
The accommodation provided is in double rooms, but single rooms are also available. For special request or single rooms please contact the organizer.
Transports
A private shuttle service is provided each day to get back to the hotel after the walk or to move to further destinations of our tour. The same shuttle will drive us from the station in Siena to our Hotel upon arrival, and the other way round on the day of departure.
The group
In order to best enjoy our walks we keep our groups small: no more than a maximum of 12 people. The group will be lead by three guides, all fluent in English and one Norwegian speaker.
What to bring
Hiking shoes and clothes, comfortable backpack or fanny pack for the daily excursions, waterproof jacket, sunscreen.
Spring in Italy can vary a lot. Temperatures are usually between 10-25 degrees celsius and it could get quite hot during the day and quite chilly in the evening: be prepared for both conditions.
Credit cards are widely accepted in Italy in all big business, but cash is still used for all little-medium expenses so we strongly advise you to have cash money for your daily personal expenses. There is an ATM in S.Quirico d’Orcia if needed.
How to get there
Our meeting point will be the train station in Siena.
The closest airports are in Firenze (75 Km), Bologna (160 Km) and Roma (260 Km). Norwegian Airlines flies directly to Rome, SAS- Scandinavian Airlines flies directly to Rome, and to Bologna with a stop. Other companies like Lufthansa or KLM fly to Florence, usually with a stop.
To reach Siena by train you can buy the tickets through the Trenitalia website.
If you have any other questions please contact us.
